Behind the music...

I've been making things for as long as I can remember, although what I'm making has changed considerably over the years. Music is at the centre of what I'm doing now, but it's surrounded by a lot of other interests: model building, games, toys, books, movies, mythology, and the endless rabbit holes that come with spending too much time online.

The internet and the library have always been important places for me. Some of my earliest musical experiments happened on Coke Studios, where I assembled my first mixes. I also spent an unreasonable amount of time exploring sites like the Mega Man Homepage, Ben's World of Transformers, and Rebel Scum, and obsessing over music through places like the Internet Nirvana Fan Club, learning their songs from Ultimate Guitar. Long before social media became the default, these little corners of the web taught me that you could simply make a page about something you loved and put it out there.

I eventually started making my own music, first through DIY projects and later through my own modest laptop-recording setup. I've made projects for school, punk covers with friends, created a zine, worked in campus radio, and gradually assembled the music I'm releasing now.

This corner of the net grows out of all of those things, and I don't have much interest in keeping them in separate boxes. The music is the main thread, but it isn't the whole story. The videos, the things I build, the things I collect, and the things I become temporarily obsessed with are all part of the same life. This is where I keep track of some of it.

// INFLUENCES //

My influences are all over the place. Music is obviously a big one, from Nirvana and punk to hip-hop, electronic music, post-punk, and everything in between. I'm equally shaped by the nerdy stuff I've spent my life consuming: Transformers, Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Mega Man, Digimon, old websites, horror & science fiction, mythology, and whatever else holds my interest. John Carpenter has been particularly important to me, both as a filmmaker and composer, while books are too numerous to name, although Our Band Could Be Your Life has been especially influential. I'm also a longtime listener of Weird Studies and The Secret History of Western Esotericism Podcast. These are just a few reference points rather than a definitive list.
